Britain. The end of post war hardship and the hope for a new brighter future. This is the story of Will Trevethan, a young artist who is called up for National Service and is catapulted in to the horrors of the Korean War. He endures horrific conditions and trauma fighting a war he neither understands nor cares about. His only care is for his love Sal, a childhood sweetheart who is waiting for him back in Britain.
Taken as a Prisoner of War Will endures torture and starvation whilst enslaved in one of the northern jungle camps. Following the execution of his comrades he is released by his captors and makes his way back to safety. He survies the war and returns to Britain a hero only to fall in to a chasm of depression once he realises that the British has no appetite for war in this new decade of wealth, positivity and pioneering adventure.
He collapses in a shop and is hospitalised where he remains for the next forty years, incarcerated in a unit for those who cannot help themselves and need total care. His trauma haunts him each day and night and all is lost, until a visting doctor from Canada who specialises in post war trauma takes a shine to this damaged artist, and from there Will begins the long path to recovery.
For someone who has lost everything the only person that matters to Will is Sal. Will he be able to find her and will she recognise him after all these years? And if so, would she be interested in meeting up with a lost, damaged, traumatised soldier, whose only passions in life were his art and his love?
This is a story of love, high passion, trauma and suffering played out in the latter part of the 20th Century.
